Culture, Memory and History was born out of respect and appreciation from Prof. Anita Shapira's students and friends for her voluminous scientific work in describing the growth and consolidation of the Zionist revolution and her contribution to academic life in Israel. Anita Shapira's research focuses on the dilemma faced by every historian: what remains in our memory in the abundance of events in our lives? What entered the collective memory and what was pushed to the margins? What was forgotten under "a veil of dust", silenced by the horror of events or was "put on ice"? These questions determine our image and attitude, here and now, toward our surroundings. The first volume, Memory Image, is divided into general and Jewish history. The second volume, Culture and Israeli Memory, centers on the Yishuv-Israeli history. Together the two volumes give a broad spectrum and focus on research trends in a variety of relating fields which touch Anita Shapira's work.
