This book is dedicated to Moshe Lissak. The book gathers recent articles pertaining to the complex research in Israeli sociology, which Moshe Lissak contributed so much to develop, and are merged under the general heading "Israel as a modern society". The studies deal with the Israeli society as a junction of tensions and express its existence as a diverse and multifaceted one: Israel as a national society in an era of globalization ,the society's changes from the revolution it presented at its outset, the inclination of this society to assemble its components, and yet it is subject to strong forces of distancing and confrontation, the dilemmas of the Israeli society regarding its collective identity , its challenges in its unique design between the demands of secular democracy and its links to the heritage and religious symbols, the coping with the question of social equality – on the ethnic, gender, national and other aspects – and the problems it places on the education system as well as the higher education. All these issues were discussed, at one point or another, in Moshe Lissak's many works and in his academic research. The authors of the book's chapters are proud to have donated their works to these fields, and thus express their appreciation for him.
